'I LOVE THIS CLUB'
The University of Exeter Hockey Club has long been an integral aspect of the University and is one of Exeter’s High-Performance Clubs. The men’s club fields 6 teams in BUCS and 7 in weekend hockey leagues, whilst the women’s club has 6 BUCS teams, a 7s development team, and 3 weekend league teams. EUHC ended the 2018/19 season as the highest BUCS ranked hockey university in the country and have finished as one of the top two since 2011.
The coming season will hopefully mark the return of normality for EUHC. In the Ladies' club, our 1s will lead the way with another crack at the BUCS National Premier League on Wednesdays and the Division 1 South in the England Hockey League. Meanwhile, in the Men's, the 1st team will enjoy their fourth consecutive year in the top tier of the England Hockey League (Premiership) and aim to repeat the recent triumphs of the 18/19 season BUCS Championship Gold. The Men's 2nd team remain one of a handful of 2s teams to compete in the England Hockey League.
Our success has attracted high quality coaches and players, this quality is represented throughout the club as a whole and, along with our fantastic facilities, has helped make us one of the most successful clubs on campus.
Our success has not been limited to on-pitch achievements. Last year we had a huge focus on charity work - we have raised over £15,000 for Hockey for Heroes, MIND and the November Foundation through charity hockey days, shaving heads, charity car washes, pub quizzes and lots more.
Furthermore, EUHC consistently has the most sought-after social calendar year after year. Notorious for regularly organising joint men’s and women’s socials, EUHC also brags an assortment of all-day events. Highlights include Christmas dinners, the nationally renowned ‘Edinburgh Fives’ and infamous End of Season Dinners ... few sports clubs can compete.
Finally, our Intramural programme enables students to play mixed hockey in an extremely social and enjoyable environment, whilst also being coached by members of our 1st XI teams who have represented England U21s and higher. With matches running every Sunday evening, Intramural is ideal for taking time out from your academic routine. We recently introduced an intramural festival which has given non-BUCS hockey players the opportunity to play competitive matches against other university sides, something that has not previously been available to them. The event attracted over 100 students from universities across the South-West.
